In Saint Gervais les Bains there are other sports away from skiing and snowboarding you can try. You can try your hand at either horse riding, ice climbing or curling. If this is not the sort of activity you are looking to do, then don’t worry, there are plenty more.
You can go paragliding or ballooning over the mountains to experience unique views that you would not get from just standing on the slopes. You can also hire snowshoes to get to those places you cannot quite reach on your skis or snowboard.
Down in the village there are also other plenty of things to do in the evening, e.g., swimming, ice skating and wandering around the village visiting the local shops and restaurants.
Nestled in a narrow gorge beneath the towering Mont Blanc Massif, St Gervais is part of the vast Evasion Mont Blanc ski area – linked to Megève over Mont d’Arbois.
The mostly tree-lined ski area covers 263 km of slopes, which extends to over 400 km when the resorts of Les Contamines and Les Houches are included. The terrain mostly suits beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders, but there are some decent challenges for those with more experience – especially at Mont Joly and within the trees following fresh snowfall. St Gervais itself boasts some fantastic spas – it was built up around its thermal baths in the 19th Century. There is a lively après scene, including the resort’s own La Folie Douce.
St Gervais’s lifts reach altitudes of 2,350 m, so the resort does have dependable snow conditions. The resort also has snow making machines on 50 km of its runs.
Saint Gervais is 1 hour and 15 minutes from Chambery Airport, and 1 hour 30 minutes from Geneva.
