    About La Grande Motte

La Grande Motte has a truly unique location at the gateway of the Camargue National Park in Provence. It boasts an average of over 300 days of sunshine per year, affording it an ideal climate right in the heart of the Mediterranean coastline.

A city that’s centred around architecture and water sports, La Grande Motte delights the water sport, leisure and design enthusiasts, as well as those who just love lying around on the beach. All visitors can discover and enjoy boating, sailing or water skiing on the sea, or on Lake Ponant, thanks to the many activities provided by the Nautical Center.

La Grande Motte is Europe’s greenest seaside resort, which is now a “20th Century Heritage” site, awarded by the Ministry of Culture and Communication. The many symbols and pieces of artwork found throughout the town combine with its buildings and parks, to create a veritable outdoor museum.

Things to do in La Grande Motte

The public beaches at La Grande-Motte are the main attraction, and rightly so. There are several kilometres of sandy beaches here (the central beach, and east and west beaches), which are clean, have a large area supervised by lifeguards, and are mostly accessible to disabled people. There are also several private areas of beach. The beaches have been awarded the ‘Blue flag’ award for their cleanliness and facilities.

Golf enthusiasts will love the golf course on the edge of la Grande-Motte, which was created by one of the world’s leading designers of golf course and includes two 18 hole courses and a shorter course with six holes.

The town has easy access to the Camargue region, a region of natural beauty and wildlife to the east of La Grande-Motte. Two other particular highlights in the area that we recommend visiting are the fortified town at Aigues-Mortes and the small port town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer (a little further but worth the trip).

    Climate

At an average temperature of 24.3 °C, July is the hottest month of the year. The lowest average temperatures in the year occur in January, when it is around 7.5 °C. On average there are 112.56 hours of sunshine per month.

    Transfer time
