With top of the range infrastructure, direct access to 250km of high altitude skiing and a quick transfer from Grenoble airport, Vaujany is an authentic French ski village that has many larger resorts in the Alps teeming with envy.
During the 1980s, Vaujany was transformed from a quiescent, French farming village to an illustrious ski resort when the government purchased a vast proportion of land for France’s largest hydro-electric scheme. The construction of the lucrative Barrage de Grand’Maison allowed villagers to invest €20 million into what was the largest cable-car in France, to reach the Alpe d’Huez resort above. The continuous proceeds generated by the dam have afforded Vaujany a top of the range infrastructure and a multitude of high quality resort facilities.
Vaujany is undoubtedly a family orientated resort, owed largely to its’ much loved creche and well-equipped leisure centre. In addition to a 25m heated indoor swimming pool and waterslide, the sports complex includes an Olympic ice rink, gym and bowling alley.
There are a series of top quality ski schools available, including an English-speaking team within ESF with excellent facilities to keep the children entertained throughout the day.
In 2019, construction will commence for one of the most innovative developments in the Alps to date: a gondola linking Alpe d’Huez to Les 2 Alpes. The gondola ride is expected to take 18 minutes between the two resorts and transport 3000 passengers an hour. The project is due for completion in 2021 and will allow holiday makers to enjoy over 450 km of pistes, 132 ski lifts and two glaciers for summer skiing – all accessible with just one ski pass!
With the upcoming formation of the fourth largest ski area in France and Vaujany itself confirming an investment project worth €32 million, comes an inevitable augmentation in rental returns and property values.
